Staff

John Pollak (left in picture) joined the COIL staff in 2010. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Biology and an interest in the natural environment. John is in charge of the daily operation of the instruments and managing sample preparation by undergraduate staff.

Dr. Jed Sparks (center in picture) has been COIL's director since joining the Cornell Ecology and Evolutionary Biology faculty in 2002. He first developed a love for isotopes as an undergraduate in Dr. Jim Ehleringer's lab at the University of Utah and has continued to use stable isotopes in a wide variety of ecological and biogeochemical projects.

Kim Sparks (right in picture) has been working in COIL since 2004 and managing the facility since 2009. She started as a plant physiology ecologist at Washington State University and has worked extensively in the field of biogeochemistry. Kim manages the daily operations of the laboratory, quality control and method development.
